RV Insurance in Ohio

RV Insurance Options and Requirements

In the state of Ohio, whether you need RV insurance is dependent on the type of RV you plan to purchase or drive. Let The Vaughan Agency help you find the coverage for your situation.

When RV Insurance is Needed

If any of the following situations or statements apply to your particular situation, then you will likely need a separate insurance policy to ensure your RV is covered.

Your RV is a Motorhome

If you are able to drive your RV, you need liability insurance coverage. While full coverage is usually optional, this doesn’t mean that you need to opt out. Determine the value of your RV, the likelihood of a loss, and whether you are able to self-insure.

You Have Financed Your RV

Are you financing your RV? If so, your lender will likely require you to buy full coverage as a safeguard for their interests. Some lenders will purchase coverage for you and then send you the bill. In most cases, this is going to cost more than buying it on your own.

You are Renting Your RV

If you are renting an RV, then you are responsible for any type of damages that occur while it is in your possession. It’s a good idea to check with your auto insurer to determine if your coverage extends to renting your RV. If not, the rental dealer should be able to provide you with coverage for an additional fee.

When is RV Insurance Optional?

If you have an RV and any of the statements here apply, then purchasing RV insurance is usually optional.

You can Only Tow Your RV

If you have to tow your RV, then your auto insurance policy will likely cover it. This usually includes travel trailers, pop-ups, and fifth-wheels.

You Own Your RV

If you aren’t financing your RV, then you are not required to purchase liability insurance – but you should in the event that something happens, such as an accident, theft, or other unforeseen circumstances where your RV gets damaged or causes damage to another's property.
