Medicare Serving Ohio and West Virginia.

Understanding Your Medicare Options

Medicare offers different ways to receive your health coverage, and understanding these choices is an important part of planning for your health care needs. Whether you’re new to Medicare or reviewing your current coverage, it’s helpful to know how the different parts work and what options are available to you.

You can choose to receive your benefits through Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and may add a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy and/or a Part D prescription drug plan, or you can enroll in a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan, which is offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. Each option works differently, and the right choice depends on your health needs, financial situation, and personal preferences.

Our agency serves individuals in Ohio and West Virginia, providing guidance to help you review your options and make an informed decision that fits your situation.

Which part of Medicare Do I need?

In the United States, Medicare provides different coverage options designed to meet a variety of needs. Choosing the right option depends on your individual situation, including your budget, health needs, and preferences for how you receive care.

Medicare is made up of several parts:

  1. Part A helps cover inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health care.
  2. Part B helps cover outpatient care, doctor services, preventive services, and some medical supplies.
  3. Part C (Medicare Advantage) is offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. These plans combine Part A and Part B coverage, and many also include prescription drug coverage and other benefits not covered by Original Medicare.
  4. Part D helps cover prescription drug costs and is available as a stand-alone plan or as part of many Medicare Advantage plans.
  5. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans are offered by private insurance companies and help pay some of the out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

While Medicare Supplement plans remain an important option for many people, Medicare Advantage plans have become increasingly popular, offering an alternative way to receive Medicare benefits through a single plan administered by a private insurance company. Both types of coverage can play a valuable role, depending on your health care needs and financial considerations. It’s important to compare your options carefully to find the coverage that fits your situation.
